Festival «Uniting different and equal»

For the first time this year, a colorful festival «Unity of various equal» dedicated to the World Day of People with Disabilities held in Uzbekistan.

According to statistics from the World Health Organization of the United Nations, about 15 percent of the world’s population have a disability and are the largest minority in the world. This figure is constantly increasing as a result of population growth, medical advances and the aging process, which is a signal to take action towards creating opportunities for everyone to feel equal and able to reach their potential.

It is not a coincidence that the theme of the International Day of People with Disabilities this year was chosen «The unity of the different equal», which involves the creation of equal opportunities for all people regardless of their physical and other special needs.

Festival «Uniting different and equal», in turn, is intended to draw attention to the problems of people with disabilities and protection of their dignity, rights and wellbeing, as well as to draw public attention to the benefits that it receives from the participation of women and men with disabilities in the political, social, economic and cultural life. The festival will include a presentation of the draft National Action Plan for the preparation of the ratification of the UN Convention «On the Rights of People with Disabilities.»

The festival organized by the United Nations in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Advisory Council of NGOs of people with disabilities under NANGOUz.

International Day of of People with Disabilities, which celebrated annually on December 3 aims to raise public awareness and to promote the adoption of measures to improve the situation people with disabilities and to ensure equal opportunities for them. This day was established by the UN General Assembly resolution in 1992.
